PhD Candidate, Amit Kaushik, Awarded Rufford Small Grant

We are pleased to share that in December 2025, Amit Kaushik was awarded the Rufford Small Grant (First) from the Rufford Foundation to support part of his doctoral research. The project funded under this grant is titled "Community-Led Conservation of the Endangered Indian Wolf (Canis lupus pallipes) in Human-Dominated Landscapes of Madhya Pradesh, India."

This grant has supported key field expenses and has enabled the development of a community-based wildlife monitoring program for Indian wolves (Canis lupus pallipes) in central India. Given that wolves in India frequently move across both protected and non-protected areas, the project aims to address important gaps in current conservation approaches that are limited to protected-area–focused management in densely populated landscapes in the country.

Amit is currently conducting fieldwork in central India so receiving this grant was particularly timely and valuable for the progress of his fieldwork and overall research.
