Student Association for Archaeological Sciences (SAAS)

The Student Association for Archaeological Sciences (SAAS) at the University of Georgia is the organization for both graduate and undergraduate students interested in archaeology and archaeological sciences. SAAS is both a means to enhance and augment a student's archaeological experience in both the field and lab. SAAS is under the Department of Anthropology here at the university, and Dr. Suzanne Pilaar Birch acts as academic advisor. We work closely with an interdisciplinary group of faculty, staff, and students to further the goals and mission of the Center for Archaeological Sciences. Activities include guest lecturers and speakers, excavation opportunities across the state, attending professional archaeological conferences, and other archaeology-related events.

If you are interested in joining SAAS the first step you should take is to e-mail the SAAS president, Keegan Brooks, to be added to the listserv which will allow you to stay informed of SAAS meeting, events, and field opportunities. Follow us on Instagram to get a better idea of the types of events, such as lectures, field work, experimental archaeology activities, and overnight trips. Also, if you have an idea for an activity that SAAS can possibly do, please let one of the officers know. We are always open to new and exciting ideas!
