Sarieh Amiribeirami

UGA Arch

During my education, the shifting dynamics of human-animal interactions attracted my attention, particularly in the Zagros Mountains in Iran as a key region regarding debates on the onset of animal domestication and husbandry and the role animals played in different societies (nomad, semi-nomad and year-round). These interests encouraged me to follow the seminar of “Initiation to Archaeozoology” a cooperation between CNRS (Dr. Marjan Mashkour) and the University of Tehran (Dr. Haeedeh Laleh).

Since my graduation, I have been working as a freelance archaeozoologist at the Bioarchaeology Laboratory of the University of Tehran and analyzed several faunal assemblages from the Late Pleistocene to Mid Holocene and participated as an archaeozoology assistant in several international projects (in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Georgia). Also, I took the course of “Carnivores: Evolution, Ecology, Taphonomy, Archaeology” in France organized by CNRS.

I eager to learn about practical aspects and interpretation of stable isotope data in archaeological contexts, because by using the recent developments in archaeological science supplemented by conventional archaeozoological methods, we can offer a better understanding of past human-animal relationships, significantly, when we are facing with a unique environment such as the Zagros Mountains in Iran as a favorable condition for pastoralism.
