Dr. Roberta Salmi has been selected as a recipient of the 2026 Sandy Beaver Excellence in Teaching Award. This award is given annually to “outstanding faculty in the Franklin College who have shown a sustained commitment to high-quality instruction”1. Students of Dr. Salmi describe her as engaging, kind, and passionate. Hadley Mueller-Hill, PhD Student, recently expressed her gratitude for Dr. Salmi’s mentorship: She is described by her peers as a strong mentor, a passionate researcher, an amazing colleague, and a wonderful individual. Anthropology Department Chair, Dr. Ted Gragson, notes that "Roberta’s teaching spans the full curriculum—from large introductory courses in biological anthropology to advanced seminars in primate behavior and conservation—each designed to engage students actively and inclusively. Her classrooms are dynamic learning environments where students develop critical thinking, collaboration, and scientific communication skills." With such positive comments from students and colleagues alike, it is no surprise that Dr. Salmi was selected for the Sandy Beaver Excellence in Teaching Award. 1 https://franklin.uga.edu/sandy-beaver-excellence-teaching-awards Type of News/Audience: Alumni Departmental
